Recalled: EnfaCare powdered formula

FRIDAY, Jan. 9 < Mead Johnson Nutritional is recalling 505 cases of EnfaCare LIPIL infant formula. The product is contaminated with Enterobacter sakazakii (E. sakazakii), a pathogen that can cause serious illnesses, including sepsis (bacteria in the blood), meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain), and necrotizing enter colitis (severe intestinal infection) in newborn infants < particularly premature infants and infants with weakened immune systems.

EnfaCare LIPIL is made for small babies who are born prematurely or who may
need special nutritional attention. The affected cans are 12.9 ounces. The
code BME01 appears on both the cases and individual cans along with the
expiration date of January 1, 2004 (embossed 1JAN04). The cases were shipped
to hospitals, retail stores, and WIC clinics nationwide in December 2002. No
other batches of EnfaCare LIPIL are affected.

What you can do You should stop using the formula immediately and return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. For more information, call Mead Johnson Consumer Resource Center at (888) 587-7275.
